What to Expect
The Gitan Village valley is beautiful and large enough to have a school or two and other signs of civilization. It's also just up the road from Hwagae Market, a place we've shopped at a few times in the past and the site of events in the resistance struggle against the Japanese. Other than this, and some nice views of the Seomjin River (though not as nice as the views on Section 16), the section is rather ordinary (though is anywhere on the Chirisan Doollae-Gil really "ordinary"?)
Songjung Village is itsy-bitsy. There is a guest house here and I'm sure it's a nice place to stay. Unfortunately, we didn't have advance reservations and with the beautiful weather and Saturday-night stay, there were no beds available.
Getting There
Take the bus from elsewhere in the country to Hadong and then Hwagae or to Gurye and then Hwagae and then Hadong. Between Hwagae and Hadong, get off at Hwagae and head up the road.
