Former President Chun Doo-Hwan is probably the most controversial of recent Korean heads of state. Even many of those who liked his predecessor Park Jung-Hee (also a dictator) don't have the same affection for Chun. Thus, it seemed fitting that his birthplace would be low key and that I would be the only person there (until just as I was leaving, at which time another car drove up).
