In Korean a "li" (or more often spelled "ri") is a distance of about 4/10th of a kilometer. "Malli" in "Mallipo" means 10,000 li's, which emphasizes how long this beach is. The beach up the road is "Cheollipo", meaning 1,000 li's, since it's a bit shorter. And then past that is this beach of "Baeklipo", which is even smaller, and means 100 li's.
