After the 2010 South Choongcheong Province International Tourism Conference in August, we headed out to the Taean peninsula to visit the Cheollipo Arboretum. Along the way, we passed by the tower shown in the photo below and it looked interesting enough to stop and take a look.
Turns out this is near the site at Haemi Fortress where around 1000 Catholics were martyred back in 1866. Today it's a pilgrimage site with a museum and relics of the event.
