Business Translation

Business Translation

We list business translation as a separate business service here even though our general translation services are described in detail elsewhere on the site in a separate multi-page section. The reason for this is that there are a few important points to mention about business translation before linking you back to the general translation services.

Mistakes Cost Money; Smooth Communication Leads to Successful Business

Business does not just mean profit-driven ventures; it can refer to anything that connects a non-Korea based organization or group to Korea and Koreans. And the communication issues related to these activities often require particularly competent and culturally understanding translation services.

Errors rarely result in wildly misinterpreted documents that turn into multi-million dollar mistakes (but it does happen!). What more often results is a Korean translation that is not so easily understood: a general sense of friction; of slippage and connections not made; a vague sense of embarrassment; or of long-term prospects eroded. These disconnects usually remain hidden and unresolved, thus it is vitally important that they not happen in the first place.

Cultural Understanding is Paramount

This is especially important when dealing with Asian cultures, where propriety and discretion are highly valued. Koreans will rarely come back and tell you, to your face, that something has gone wrong. But if you haven’t succeeded in communicating both the literal and implied meanings of your message, and done it in a culturally appropriate way, then you haven’t communicated fully.

Furthermore, business communications often come with particular requirements that don’t surface in other types of translation. For example, business communications are often urgent, involve untangling complicated issues and/or require sensitivity to feelings, hierarchy and hidden agendas.

That’s why your business-related translations that you entrust to Korean Consulting & Translation Service, Inc. are considered from our background in Korean business to ensure the fidelity of your message.

One Part of the Whole

But having said all that, it is really a misnomer to pin the tag “business translation” on a certain kind of work, as if other translations don’t involve the same considerations. Besides, translations for legal cases, medical certifications, sales materials, technical manuals and patent submissions are all a part of business and these translation projects are often complemented by interpreting, training and other consulting support.
