Templestay at Ssanggyesa (3 of 7) – Learning about the Four Bowls Method of Eating

We happened to show up at Ssangye Temple on an evening that a group of 25 Americans were passing through for the night. They weren't really there for the temple; their tour had them visiting the sites where various Korean dramas were filmed, but I guess the organizers thought 15 hours at Ssangye Temple would be a good experience, too.

Cauvery and I got to sit through several sessions with them, including this one where we learned the ceremony for eating using four bowls. It's done without wasting any food or water and kind of cool; I guess the monks eat this way a lot.
